about

Ed Oliver writes .....
Having racked up close to 100 releases in their digital incarnation, Sheffield party-starters Off Me Nut Records carve the first notch on their vinyl bedpost with a full-colour, double-sided 12”, limited to 300 copies.
Helmed by label co-owners Tich and Dankle, aka Phatworld, the ‘Time Don’ EP taps into an instantly recognisable sound, where 90’s speed garage meets mutated, year-3000 bass. Staying faithful to the label’s DIY ethos, the release is very much a Yorkshire affair, with three of the four tracks featuring Sheffield vocalists.
Kicking off the A-side with piano keys and Leona’s diva vocals is ‘Too Deep’, a track that leaves any nostalgia in the dust when things head into 4x4 territory - one for the bassline heads.
‘Milk and Bread’ keeps the energy levels high, with Birmingham MC Devilman getting cosmic over a beat that sounds like a nitrous-injected pogo stick, whilst 0114 anthem ‘Do it like Sheff’ featuring Tez Kidd brings back the old skool/nu-skool fusion. Rave synths, pitched vocals and turbo bass are the vibe on this one.
Putting the nail into the B-side’s coffin is ‘Next Man’s Grave’, where Tenik’s bars ride a riddim smelted in the darkest forges of the Steel City.
